CHS golf dual
Columbus High Senior Aspen Luebbe added another golf victory on Monday in a dual with Norfolk shooting a 38 over nine holes to beat out a 43 by Norfolk’s Kylie Blume.
Luebbe’s 38 propelled Columbus to the team win 191-199.
“I felt that I played pretty good today, minus one hole, but it happens,” Luebbe said. “Other than that the weather was really nice, barely any wind. It was a solid day.”
Trouble came on the second to final hole and a double bogey, but Luebbe recovered with a par to finish the round five shots clear.
“Last hole I just thought, ‘I need to recover from the double and I need to just have a good drive, get on the green, and two-putt or less’, and I did that,” Luebbe said.
Columbus Head Coach Anne Robertson said she is happy with how the season has gone for Luebbe.
“It’s been great,” she said. “I think she had one down week, but last week at Norfolk she shot 78 finishing runner-up at the Norfolk Invite, and that’s like a mini-state meet.
“I’m really excited how she’s playing golf. I think all the girls just need a little more polishing. It’s not major changes everybody needs to do, but I think Aspen is leading the way with everybody, and everybody has come along trying to keep up with her.”
Despite the success Luebbe has had so far this season, she said she is still looking for ways to improve her golf game.
“Going forward I’m trying to just improve my whole game,” she said. “From drives to fairway woods, irons, chipping and putting..all the way around, I’m just trying to get better.”
Other golfers for CHS include Ashley Warner who posted a 49, Jacey Hughes shot a 55, Wendy Castillo carded a 51 and Sarah Massman who shot a 53.
In the Norfolk Invitational last Thurdsay, Aspen Luebbe finished second out of 72 players. She shot a 78 to finish two strokes behind Lincoln Southwest’s Kate Strickland.
The Discoverers finished 11th as team.
Ashley Warner shot a 99, Jacey Hughes posted a 111 and Wendy Castillo carded a 107.
