Lowell Catholic Rallies for Impressive Win

Trailing 2-0, things looked bleak on the road for the Lowell Catholic girls volleyball team.

But the Crusaders came all the way back for a 3-2 win over St. Joseph.

Other volleyball winners were Groton-Dunstable, Greater Lowell Tech and the Academy of Notre Dame.

The Crusaders dominated the fifth and deciding set, 15-4, to capture the come-from-behind road victory.

The previous scores were 25-27, 16-25, 25-8, 25-10.

Neath Uy had 10 aces, 3 kills and 12 digs for the Crusaders. Also starring for Lowell Catholic were Maggie McGovern (8 aces, 8 kills, 2 assist, 8 digs), Madi Franz (9 aces, 7 kills, 10 digs) and Brenna Riley (6 kills, 6 aces, 7 digs).

Homecourt advantage wasn’t enough for the Pythons as they fell to their opponent from Durham, 25-19, 25-15, 25-11.

Natalia Villanueva led the way for Pelham (1-6) with 3 kills, 5 service points, 3 aces and 15 digs.

Elise Hooper added 8 digs. Hannah Andrewchuk picked up 4 assists, while Ally Alitieri added 3 assists. Also shining were Maria Dagher with 3 kills and Renae Cerri with 3 blocks.

Alexis Millett powered the Crusaders to Monday’s conquest by compiling 8 kills and 3 aces.

Set scores were 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Hannah Wynn contributed 4 kills and Lily Blodgett added 4 blocks.

Strong serving lifted the Gryphons to the road victory.

Serving well for the Gryphons were LaraBeth Laviena with 14 service and 3 aces, and Areceli lopez with 10 serves, 4 aces and 5 kills.

Kailynn Senechaime added 6 assists to the winning cause.

Elena Murguia powered the Lancers to the CAC home victory in Tyngsboro, 25-16, 25-14, 25-22.

Murguia claimed 17 assists, 12 service points and 7 aces. Christina Tsillas and Maddie Walent notched 5 kills each, while Walent added 7 aces. Jackie Denisco contributed 18 digs for the Academy of Notre Dame (3-2).

Junior Elena Valiente compiled 2 goals and an assist to spark the Crusaders to Monday’s victory.

Adding a goal each were senior capt. Ali Dresser, senior Jordyn Morey, senior Patricia Adesanya, senior capt. Allison Geaudreau and freshman Charlotte Morey.

Dresser dished out 2 assists for LC (2-1). Picking up an assist each were junior Alli Curran and senior Jaclyn Coppinger. Splitting time in goal were Grace Maston (7 saves) and Meg Cabral (5 saves).

Sophomores Matt Collins and Ryan Farrar combined for the shutout in net as the Vikings rolled in Westford.

Scoring for Nashoba Tech (2-1-2) were freshman Davidson Fleming, sophomores Ryan Farrar and Sean Farrar, juniors Nathan Dorman and Pat Duffy, and senior Matt Venti.

A Matt Barbosa goal lifted the Gryphons to a CAC tie on the road.

Carlos Nicolau, Jared Marchand, Cole Blades, Izisiah Flores and Nick Matta were standouts for Greater Lowell (1-1-3).
