PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) _ Sun Microsystems Inc., a leading maker of network servers, announced Monday it had completed its buyout of HighGround Systems Inc., a developer of storage resource management solutions for storage network environments.

In a statement, Sun said its acquisition of the Marlboro, Mass.-based company extends Sun's existing storage software product line. The acquisition allows Sun to take more of a leadership role in the emerging storage resource management market, Sun said.

In February, Sun warned investors its third-quarter earnings would fall short of expectations because of the faltering U.S. economy and a slowdown in demand for its equipment.

Sun acquired HighGround in a stock-for-stock transaction. HighGround becomes part of Sun's Network Storage organization.
