Late night fire destroys cars in Rochester garage, damages house
Three cars were destroyed and a Rochester house damaged from a garage fire at just before 11 p.m. Tuesday night in the 2200 block of First Avenue Southwest.
Rochester Fire Department crews found a detached garage engulfed in fire when they arrived.
They extinguished the majority of the blaze within 10 minutes and accounted for the safety of the people and pets in the adjacent residence, according to reports.
The three cars in the garage were found “total losses” from the blaze. The garage and the back of the house were also damaged, for a total estimated loss of $150,000.
Extreme cold conditions made battling the fire challenging for firefighters.
RFD crews rotated in and out of the cold as the firefighters’ breathing packs kept freezing up along with other equipment.
Firefighters stayed at the fire scene all night in case it rekindled.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
