Lady O holds off Seward
The Beatrice softball managed to win a low scoring pitchers duel Thursday night against Seward.
The Lady O won the game 3-1 at Hannibal Park in Beatrice, improving their record to 14-2 on the season.
Addie Barnard pitched the complete seven innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits while striking out six and walking five.
Beatrice managed to grab an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. With two outs, Barnard was intentionally walked and Ashton Sandman made Seward pay for it with an RBI triple down the right field line.
Both teams had opportunities to score for the next several innings, but neither team could come up with the big hit.
Seward finally broke the scoring drown in the top of the fifth. Two singles and an error loaded the bases for the Lady Blue Jays with one out.
Barnard got a pick strike out for the second out of the inning, but a wild pitch to the next batter allowed the tying run to score.
Beatrice regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth. A single by Aden and walks to Barnard and Sandman loaded the bases with two outs. Aden would score on a wild pitch to give Beatrice a 2-1 lead, but the rally would end there.
The Lady O picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on Tavia Hausman’s lead off solo home run, making it 3-1.
Seward tog their lead off hitter on in the seventh inning, but a strikeout, a fly out and a ground out ended the game.
Beatrice had seven hits in the game. Hausman led the way with a home run and a single while Sandman had a triple. Beatrice got a single each from Aden, Whitney Schwisow, Hannah Lytle and Carley Leners.
The Lady O will be in action against Saturday at the Columbus Invite. They will return home to host Omaha Skutt on Thursday.
