Knightdale man charged after shooting visiting cousin in the chest, police say
A Knightdale man is facing charges after police said he shot a visiting cousin after the suspect was awakened by the relative, authorities said.
Darius Keyshawn Joyner, 22, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting serious injury, according to a statement by Knightdale police that was posted on the department’s Facebook page.
He was being held Sunday at the Wake County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond. He was expected to make a first appearance in court on Tuesday, according to jail records.
Police were called to Joyner’s home in the 200 block of Aqua Marine Lane about 2:30 a.m., officials said.
When they arrived, relatives were trying to revive Isaiah Johnson, 17, who had been shot in the chest.
The teen was rushed to a local hospital, where he was being treated for a life-threatening injury, according to the police statement.
It was not immediately clear if the shooting was intentional or if Joyner mistook his cousin, who was visiting the residence, for a home intruder.
Anyone with information was asked to call Knightdale police at 919-217-2261.
