Governors wager on Dakota Marker game
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The birthday of both Dakotas has role in a friendly wager between North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard for Saturday’s football game between the Bison and the Jackrabbits.
Each governor has agreed to donate $128 to the foundation of the other school’s foundation if they lose the matchup between the North Dakota State University and South Dakota State University football teams. The dollar amount honors the 128th anniversary of both Dakotas celebrated this week.
Kickoff for the 14th annual Dakota Marker game is at 2 p.m. Saturday in Brookings, S.D. The trophy is a 75-pound model replica of the original quartzite monuments placed at half-mile intervals along the border in 1891-1892.
