CHICAGO (AP) _ A friendly between Mexico and Ecuador that was supposed to be played Saturday night was postponed after the coach of Ecuador’s national team was shot in the leg.
No new date was given for the match.
Hernan Gomez was shot May 8 during an argument with men who blamed the coach for excluding the former president’s son from a youth squad. Gomez was shot in the thigh, and also reportedly pistol whipped in the face.
Ecuador’s game with Mexico was supposed to be the second half of a doubleheader at Soldier Field. The Chicago Fire host the Kansas City Wizards in the first game in a rematch of last year’s MLS Cup final.
