New Acting President At Wilkes
An employee of Wilkes University for nearly 40 years has been named interim president.
Paul S. Adams, a 1977 graduate of the school, was appointed Thursday by the board of trustees. Adams will assume the role on Aug. 1 to replace outgoing President Patrick Leahy, who is becoming president of Monmouth University in New Jersey.
Currently, Adams holds the position of vice president of student affairs.
The appointment was announced to school officials Thursday in an email by Dan Cardell, chairman of the board of trustees.
“I’d also like to thank the members of the Presidential Search Committee for their valuable insights during this very important first step,” Cardell wrote.
When a permanent president has been named, Adams will resume his role as vice president of student affairs, Cardell said.
Adams previously served as the director of residence life, dean of academic support services, dean of student affairs and university college, and interim vice president for development.
He has been a member of the board of directors of Luzerne County Head Start, the United Way of Wyoming Valley, the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA and was a member of the executive committee for the Diamond City Partnership.
Adams has studied or served under five of Wilkes University’s six presidents. He and his wife, Jean, reside in Kingston. They have two daughters, Caroline and Lindsay.
