MASS SHOOTING THREAT

PROVO, Utah — A man who posted a Facebook message threatening to kill “as many girls as I see” in retaliation for years of romantic rejection has been sentenced to up to five years in prison in Utah. By Brady McCombs.

CLIMBER DEATH _ Authorities have identified the Minnesota man who died while rock climbing in Colorado. Twenty-two-year-old Mitchel Halberg of Winona died of a head injury after falling while climbing in Poudre Canyon near Fort Collins, Colorado on Saturday. The death was ruled an accident.

BP SPILLS-COLORADO _ BP America Production Co. has been fined $68,000 for three spills of an oil and gas byproduct in southwestern Colorado. The Durango Herald reported Wednesday that BP has agreed to spend about $12.5 million by 2022 to repair or replace 17 miles (27 kilometers) of pipelines in La Plata County.

The number of red wolves roaming the forests of North Carolina has plunged to fewer than three dozen in recent years — the most precarious position of any U.S. wolf species.
