Police: SUV that crashed into pole, sparking fire was stolen
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a vehicle that crashed into a utility pole and sparked a fire that destroyed a Syracuse home was reported stolen soon after the accident.
Fire crews responded around 1:45 a.m. Thursday to reports of a crash and downed power lines in front of a home on Liberty Street.
When firefighters arrived they found a burning SUV on top of a car with flames coming from a nearby home. Officials say everyone inside the home managed to escape.
The fire department says the impact of the crash downed power lines, which sparked the blaze.
One resident and two firefighters suffered injuries.
Police say Friday that the registered owner of the crashed SUV called 911 soon after the crash to report the vehicle had been stolen. The driver was seen walking away from the scene.
