11 fun things to see and do at San Japan XI
Thousands of anime fans geeking out for three days across three downtown San Antonio locations? It could only add up to San Japan, South Texas’s largest celebration of Japanese animation and pop culture.
Billed as San Japan XI: Magical Universe, this year’s convention casts its spell Friday through Sunday at the Convention Center, with ancillary programming at the nearby Grand Hyatt San Antonio and San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk hotels.

All the real estate helps. Last year’s San Japan drew more than 17,000 “otaku” — that’s basically your Japanese word for geek — to various panels, concerts and other activities. And there’s no missing those animated attendees, especially the ones who cosplay as their favorite characters in dynamic DIY costumes.
This year’s San Japan promises just as much spectacle.
