Ex-Hartford Basketball Player Dead
EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Marvin Powell, a former basketball player at the University of Hartford and the half brother of Seton Hall forward Eddie Griffin, had died at his home of an apparent heart attack. He was 34.
Powell, who died Wednesday, averaged 9.1 points and 5.9 rebounds as a 6-foot-5 center for the Hawks from 1984-1988. He was one of 13 Hartford players to have more than 500 career points and rebounds.
He scored 976 points and pulled down 632 rebounds in his college career from 1984-1988.
Powell, survived by a wife and three children, was a computer graphic artist in East Hartford.
A funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Hartford.
