At least 8 killed in Brazil bus crash
SAO PAULO (AP) — Authorities say at least eight people are dead after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine while trying to avoid an oncoming truck in southeastern Brazil.
Highway police in the state of Espirito Santo tell G1, the Internet portal of Brazilian television network Globo, that the accident occurred early Saturday morning.
G1 says the bus driver told police that when he swerved to avoid the truck his brakes failed, and the bus fell about 40 meters (130 feet) into the ravine.
At least 21 other passengers were injured.
