Connecticut man gets 12 years in prison in 2009 shooting
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man has been sentenced to serve 12 years in prison for his role in a 2009 shooting at a Hartford gas station that led to the death of the victim several months later.
The Hartford Courant reports that Noel Maldonado was sentenced Wednesday to serve 12 years of a 20-year sentence with five years of probation for the December 2009 shooting of Luis Benitez. Benitez was hit multiple times and suffered grievous wounds but survived until March 14, 2010.
Few witnesses came forward at the time of the shooting.
By January 2014, thanks to an investigatory grand jury, authorities had enough evidence to arrest Maldonado and Hector Torres.
Prosecutors and Maldonado’s attorney reached a plea deal in the case.
Torres was previously sentenced to 37 years in prison.
