Newtown Road Race set for Sept. 1
The 13th-annual Newtown Road Race 5k and the Newtown Prevention Council Kids Run to benefit Newtown Youth and Family Services will be held Sept. 1 at Dickinson Park in Newtown starting at 8 a.m.
“We are very excited to be celebrating 13 years of community members running, walking and pushing strollers to help us achieve our mission and provide support services in Greater Newtown,” Executive Director Candice Bohr said in a press release. “This is a family friendly event that kicks off the Labor Day festivities here in Newtown.”
The 5k race will feature individual awards for the top female and male runners in each of the eight age divisions. The course is a certified 5k USATF course. T-shirts will be given to the first 500 runners and the first 100 kids race participants.
Parts of Route 302 will be closed approximately from 7 to 10 a.m. To register, look online at NewtownRoadRace.com, or pick up a registration form at Newtown Youth Academy, at Park and Recreation or at Newtown Youth and Family Services, located at 15 Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook. Race-packet pickup will take place Aug. 31 at Dickinson Park from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Packets will also be available on race day. Same-day registration will begin at 7:15 a.m.
