PEORIA -- For the second straight season, former Mount Carmel standout Eryn Gould was recognized with All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team honors on Wednesday in Peoria.

The sophomore catcher elected to continue her athletic career as an Ace, making the short trip down south to Evansville. This time as a Purple Ace, Gould has continued to thrive.

Gould hit for a .377 clip in the 2018 season, earning MVC Newcomer of the Year honors as well as her First Team selection. This year, her batting average slipped a bit due to any early slump, but it stands at a team-high .306. She’s added team-highs in doubles (10), home runs (10), RBIs (31), runs (30), hits (41), walks (35), slugging percentage (.604) and on base percentage (.455). In short, Gould leads Evansville in virtually every offensive category.

“Eryn has had a tremendous year,” Aces head coach Mat Mundell said in Evansville’s press release. “She can do it all offensively. She had speedy and power. Defensively, she has played all over the diamond for us and really improved in that aspect of her game.”

As the season proceeded, Gould’s bat has improved considerably, she’s batting a .421 over her last 14 games according to the press release. She’s slashed four homers and 14 RBIs in that 14-game stretch. Additionally, she’s started in every game this year for the Aces (19-30), displaying incredible durability.

Her Aces fell in the opener of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in Peoria against Valparaiso 5-0 on Wednesday, but it wasn’t due to a lack of effort on Gould’s behalf. She went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot for the Aces, adding a walk. Her two hits were a third of the hits the Aces had in the game.

Though her season’s now over, look for Gould to build upon her past two seasons of success and come prepared for a strong junior campaign.
