Hidalgo County to activate its Emergency Operations Center, continue sandbag distribution

Hidalgo County Office of Emergency Management announced that it will open an Emergency Operations Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

“There is a 70 percent chance of the rain system in the gulf becoming a tropical depression with a possibility of dropping from 5 to 10 inches of rain and creating isolated incidents of flash flooding in some areas,” said Emergency Management Coordinator Ricardo Saldaña in a county news release. “The biggest threat to our area will be Thursday evening.”

Precinct offices are continuing to distribute sandbags at the following locations on Thursday:

Precinct 1

>> Sunrise Hill Park

Mile 11 N and Mile 1 ½ W., Mercedes

9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

>> 1902 Joe Stephens Ave., Weslaco

9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Precinct 2

>> Field Operations Facility

4100 S. Veterans Rd., San Juan

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Precinct 3

>> 2401 N. Moorefield Rd (La Mansion), Mission

9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

>> Precinct 3 Drainage Yard Property

2800 W. Mile 7 Road

(La Homa Rd and 7 Mile Line)

9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Precinct 4
