Man convicted of shooting at Holyoke police officer
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Holyoke man who shot at a city police officer has been sentenced to up to 17 years in prison.
Pedro Arroyo was sentenced Monday in Hampden Superior Court after a jury took two hours to find him guilty of charges including armed assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors say the 23-year-old Arroyo fired on Officer William Delgado in January 2014 after Delgado, responding to reports of gunfire, had asked Arroyo and another person to stop.
Arroyo missed, and Delgado returned fire, but no one was struck.
The Republican (http://bit.ly/1Bk8jMH ) reports that Arroyo’s lawyer said Delgado was driving an unmarked car and his client did not know he was an officer, and used reasonable force in self-defense.
