Fred Thompson federal courthouse to be complete by 2021
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Officials have broken ground on a Tennessee federal courthouse named after the late Sen. Fred Thompson. The facility should be completed by 2021.
Sen. Lamar Alexander, Rep. Jim Cooper, federal judges and others headlined Friday’s Nashville ceremony for the Fred D. Thompson Federal Building and United States Courthouse.
Alexander said the building was on a list of priority courthouses for 20-plus years and made it to the top, but there was no money until Congress approved $181 million in 2015.
Alexander and other lawmakers from Tennessee pushed legislation to name the courthouse after Thompson. President Donald Trump signed it last June.
Alexander said Thompson will have gone from prosecuting bank robbers and moonshiners from a back office in a federal courthouse to having his name on the front of one.
