Beatrice Big Blue Water Park to host Doggie Swim Night
The Beatrice Big Blue Water Park will go to the dogs on Thursday as pool season wraps up.
The Beatrice Humane Society’s annual Doggie Swim Night runs from 5:30-7:30 this evening, giving dogs a chance to enjoy the water. There’s a $10 admission fee per dog, with no charge for their humans. All proceeds go the Humane Society.
Bette Anne Thaut, board member of the Humane Society, said the City of Beatrice and the animal shelter have put on the event for nearly 5 years.
“It’s a great way to end summer and have fun,” Thaut said. “And the dogs always seem to have a good time.”
Last year, nearly 80 dogs showed up for Doggie Swim Night, and Thaut expects good turnout for tonight as long as inclement weather stays away.
There is a chance of scattered thunderstorms forecast for Beatrice, Thursday evening.
While dogs are allowed anywhere at the water park - from the slides to the diving boards - Thaut said dogs need to be leashed when brought into the pool area.
The dogs also need to be current on their rabies vaccinations. Owners will also have to sign a liability waiver upon entering, as well.
The event marks the end of pool season in Beatrice. Sunday was the last day the pool was open to the public. After Thursday, the pool will be drained.
“It’s amazing - we have all different sizes, breeds, colors,” Thaut said. “It’s very popular and everybody goes home tired.”
