Michigan St. 76, Ohio St. 64
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) _ Michigan State’s Ken Redfield scored 20 points to lead the Spartans to a 76-64 Big Ten victory Monday over Ohio State.
The Spartans, 7-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference, made seven consecutive baskets in a four-minute stretch to turn a 10-4 deficit into a 19-14 lead with 9:27 left in the first half.
Michigan State, which led 32-29 at half, never trailed after Redfield’s jumper made it 16-14 at the 10:25 mark. Redfield scored 14 in the second half.
Spartan Steve Smith scored 12 of his 18 points in the first half. Ohio State, 10-7, 3-4, pulled to within one, 42-41, on John Anderson’s jumper with 14:15 left in the game.
But the Spartans responded with a 10-4 run to lead 52-45 on Todd Wolfe’s jumper with 10:05 left.
Ohio State never got closer than four points after that.
Jerry Francis led Ohio State with 19 points.
