OKLAHOMA CITY _ An Oklahoma legislative committee has advanced a proposal that would give law enforcement the ability to cite railroads that block intersections for longer than 10 minutes without good reason. 320 words, with photo.


_ MOTEL SLAYING-APPEAL _ The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the murder conviction and life without parole sentence of a man in a Lawton motel slaying.

_ LESSER PRAIRIE CHICKEN _ Wildlife advocates have begun legal proceedings against U.S. officials for allegedly failing to protect a ground-dwelling bird species that’s seen its habitat shrink due to farming and energy exploration. The lesser-prairie chicken roams portions of New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
