Rangers catcher Soto arrested for drug possession
DALLAS (AP) — Texas Rangers catcher Geovany Soto has been arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
Police in the Dallas suburb of Grapevine say Soto was stopped Wednesday for speeding and found with the drug. He was freed Thursday after posting $500 bail.
Sgt. Robert Eberling says the 31-year-old Soto was cooperative with police.
The native of Puerto Rico, in his second season with the Rangers, has been on the disabled list with a knee injury and was expected to return after the All-Star break.
Soto signed a $3.05 million, one-year contract with the Rangers in the off-season, with the expectation for him to be the regular catcher this year.
Soto apologized and express embarrassment for the incident in a statement released Friday by the Rangers.
