Pacific Storm Forming Rapidly

November 7, 1997

MEXICO CITY (AP) _ A tropical depression has formed in the Pacific south of Mexico and threatens to develop into a storm that could hit the country’s southwest coast, forecasters said Friday.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the depression, with 35-mph winds, was centered roughly 450 miles southwest of Acapulco, which was battered last month by Hurricane Pauline.

The storm was expected to strengthen rapidly.

Hurricane Pauline killed almost 200 people in the southwestern Mexican states of Guerrero and Oaxaca.
