Police make drug arrest Sunday
Beatrice police arrested a man for drug possession after being called to remove the suspect from a property.
James A. Bender, 46, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Just after 6 p.m. Sunday, Beatrice police were dispatched to remove Bender from the 300 block of North Seventh Street.
While en route to remove Bender from the residence, the officer spotted Bender on a bicycle and contacted him near the police department downtown.
Court records indicate Bender became agitated when asked to empty his pockets and placed a black glasses case on the bicycle seat and allowed officers to open it.
He allegedly admitted to police that the glass pipe in the case was used to smoke methamphetamine and he had used it around three hours earlier. The pipe tested positive for methamphetamine and Bender was placed under arrest.
Bond was set at $5,000 with a 10 percent deposit. Bender’s next hearing is set for Aug. 7.
