2 Ohio men deny killing their infant daughters

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Two men accused of killing their infant daughters denied the charges in court appearances on Tuesday in Mahoning County.

According to the Vindicator, Marc Flora, 29, of Campbell, is accused of stabbing his 1-year-old daughter to death on Aug. 18. He pleaded not guilty by way of insanity to two counts of aggravated murder and one count of murder.

Christian Sumpter, 24, of Austintown, is accused of killing his 4-month-old daughter on Sept. 3, WFMJ reports. He pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated murder, two counts of murder and one count of endangering children.

WFMJ reports Flora called 911 on Aug. 18 and told dispatchers he was covered in blood and didn’t know what happened. Police arrived and found his daughter, Jane Flora, had been stabbed in the neck.

Flora is being held in jail without a bond and is awaiting a competency hearing, reports say.

Rescuers were called to Sumpter’s home after being told an infant had fallen and hit her head. The child died at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Police were called after there were suspicions the child was dropped on purpose. The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled the child’s death a homicide, reports say.

Sumpter is being held in the Mahoning County Jail.
