Assailants Vandalize McDonald’s
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) _ Assailants vandalized a McDonald’s drive-in restaurant in southern Stockholm early Saturday, smashing three windows and throwing jars of flammable liquid that set off a minor fire inside.
The initials ``Afa″ were sprayed on the building’s exterior, police spokeswoman Anki Risberg said. Afa is a small anti-fascist movement, and some of its members reportedly took part in riots during the European Union summit in the southwestern Swedish city Goteborg last month.
The vandalism happened before the restaurant opened, and nobody was hurt, McDonald’s spokesman Patrik Allinger said.
``New windows were installed, the fire caused minor damage and the graffiti was removed, so the restaurant opened virtually on time,″ Allinger said.
McDonald’s restaurants around the world often are targeted by those who see the multinational corporation as a symbol of what is wrong about globalization.
