Cops: Stolen Old Books Recovered
VATICAN CITY (AP) _ Police have recovered about 500 volumes dating back to the 1500s that were stolen from a Vatican university, a news agency said Saturday.
The books were recovered from a garage on the edge of Rome, according to Italy’s ANSA news agency. No arrests were reported.
The works were stolen from the library of the Pontifical Urbanian University in December. They included sacred texts and works on philosophy, law and art, along with tomes containing decisions by Vatican tribunals, ANSA said.
About 200 books were still missing, and presumed sold to dealers.
