Friends of the Rotary Club of Harlingen Golf Tournament
HARLINGEN — For over 15 years, the Friends of the Rotary Club of Harlingen Golf Tournament has raised funds to support organizations and projects throughout the community.
The annual fundraiser, a three-person scramble with awards for the top six teams, is set for Saturday, Oct. 13, at Tony Butler Golf Course, with check-in at 8 a.m. and tee time at 9 a.m.
“ Rotary is a nonprofit, and every penny that is raised goes back to the community,” said Lt. Col. Robert Grider via email. “Whether it is the Literacy Center, Habitat for Humanity, Loaves & Fishes, etc., our Board distributes the funds at the end of the year. If you look at the Harlingen Dog Park, that is one of the Harlingen Rotary Club’s projects that we add to every year. “
Grider, who has been chair of the tournament for the past eight years, expects another successful event. With 84 golfers already registered, Grider said there are still spots available. Entry fee is $100 and includes breakfast, lunch, golf cart and green fees.
Over $3,500 worth of prizes will be awarded to the top six teams, according to Grider.
“ I try to give them their money back through a great breakfast, lunch, a $25 gift, a sleeve of PRO V-1 golf balls and their green fees,” Grider said. “Most importantly, all of the proceeds are returned to the community.”
