Angelo State 70, Texas-San Antonio 64
SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ Delwin Smith scored 18 points as Angelo State used 11-of-18 free-throw shooting in the second half to rally to upset Texas-San Antonio 70-64 on Thursday.
Smith was one of three double-figure scorers for Angelo State (2-3), which kept pace with Texas-San Antonio (2-1) in scoring from the field on fewer shots. The Rams shot 25 of 54 from the field to the Roadrunners’ 26 of 70.
The Roadrunners’ failure from the free-throw line proved crucial, however, as they converted just 10 of 25 from the line, compared to the Rams’ 17-of-26.
Michael Turner contributed 14 points for Angelo State, while Chris Connolly added 13 points. Turner and Josh Helbert each had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Steve Meyer had a game-high 20 points for UTSA, while Leon Watson had 14 and Mike Clemens 12. Clemens and Watson each had nine rebounds.
