Wisconsin 77, Michigan St 45
MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ LaTonya Sims scored 28 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Wisconsin overcame the loss of seven players to one-game suspensions and routed Michigan State 77-45 Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
The Badgers (19-12) advanced to the semifinals against the winner of the later Long Beach State-Colorado game.
Wisconsin forced 14 first-half turnovers by the Spartans (19-12), who led 6-0 before the Badgers went on a 25-8 run en route to taking a 41-22 halftime lead.
Tamara Moore added 13 points, and Kelley Paulus and Kyle Black had 10 each for Wisconsin.
Becky Cummings and Maxann Reese led Michigan State with 10 points apiece.
Wisconsin coach Jane Albright suspended seven of her players, including two starters, on Tuesday for violating an unspecified team rule. Albright had eight players available to face Michigan State.
The disciplinary action only applied to Wednesday night’s game, so the seven players can return for the semifinal.
