South-central Iowa town of Mystic under boil advisory

June 11, 2019

MYSTIC, Iowa (AP) — Residents in the south-central Iowa town of Mystic have been warned to boil their tap water following a main break.

Officials for the city of about 400 and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said in a news release Tuesday that the entire town is without water pressure as crews work to make repairs.

After restoring pressure, the city will flush the system and collect water samples for testing.

The city and DNR recommend residents boil their water until testing shows water is safe to drink. Water pipe breaks and pressure losses can allow bacteria to enter the system.

Residents should use bottled water or boil for one minute all tap water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food.
