Maine organic fair goers parade in the name of compost
UNITY, Maine (AP) — Maine’s annual festival of rural living, homesteading, organic agriculture and sustainability is a go for the weekend.
The Common Ground Country Fair got started on Friday in Unity and runs until Sunday. The event is put on by Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and has been a tradition in Maine for more than 40 years.
The weekend is packed with demonstrations and events about simple living and rural resourcefulness. Scheduled events for the three-day event include “Compost Parade,” ″How Horses Can Help You Find Your Way” and “Free Range Chickens: An 11-Year-old’s Expertise.” There’s even whole demonstrations dedicated to subjects as specific as goat hoof trimming, potato leek soup and Icelandic sheep.
