Myrtle Beach man dies in Darlington County crash
DARLINGTON, S.C. -- A 46-year-old Myrtle Beach man who was the subject of an attempted traffic stop died Friday evening in a single-vehicle crash on Old Society Hill Road.
The 6:24 p.m. crash happened when the pickup truck the man was driving ran off the side of the road and struck a utility pole, Cpl. Sonny Collins, South Carolina Highway Patrol, said.
A passenger in the truck was transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash, Collins said.
Lt. Robert Kilgo, Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, said the driver was intentionally spinning tires in front of Darlington High School on Spring Street and that when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop the driver fled. The deputy cancelled the stop, Kilgo said.
Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee has not yet released the ID of the driver.
