ATLANTA (AP) _ Braves star Gary Sheffield reached base for the 51st straight game Friday night, singling in the fourth inning off Philadelphia lefty Randy Wolf.
Sheffield already holds the Braves’ franchise record for reaching safely by any method, surpassing the 48-game streak Atlanta’s Dale Murphy set in 1987. San Diego’s Ryan Klesko had a 56-game streak earlier this year.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the longest streak since 1975 was Mark McGwire’s 62-gamer in 1995-96.
