North Augusta man arrested after deadly hit-and-run involving 1-year-old
The North Augusta Department of Public Safety has arrested a North Augusta man Sunday in connection with a fatal hit-and-run Saturday involving a 1-year-old girl.
Dillon Jesse ‘Hubba’ Hapner, 26, is charged with hit-and-run duties of a driver involved in an accident involving death, according to jail records.
The charge carries up to 25 years in prison.
At 9:38p.m. on Saturday, 1-year-old Rylee Bloodworth was struck by a burgundy Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck near Conifer Court in North Augusta, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
Bloodworth was pronounced dead at Augusta University Medical Center Emergency Department following the incident, Carlton said.
She died from the injuries she sustained after being struck by the vehicle, said Carlton in a press release.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Newberry.
Following an investigation, it was determined Hapner was the driver who struck the child and fled the scene, said Lt. Tim Thornton with North Augusta Public Safety.
Hapner was located at his residence, where he was arrested and taken to the Aiken County detention center.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
