Jury finds couple not guilty of abusing child family member
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts couple who had been charged with repeatedly tying up a child family member with an extension cord has been acquitted.
The Metrowest Daily News reports the Middlesex Superior Court jury found 76-year-old Joanne Tierney and 75-year-old Thomas Tierney not guilty of assault and reckless endangerment charges Thursday.
The Tierneys brought the child to a hospital in Natick in August 2015 tied in electrical cords, saying the child was suffering from mental issues.
The hospital contacted police, and the child told investigators the couple would often tie him up when he misbehaved.
The Tierneys told police they tied the boy up as part of a game, and he often asked to be tied up.
Joanne Tierney’s lawyer says the couple is relieved with the jury’s finding.
