Official: Wrong treasurer listed
KANKAKEE — An official says he shouldn’t be listed as the treasurer for the Kankakee mayor’s campaign.
Since 2015, Bradley Village Trustee Nick Allen has been listed on the state Board of Elections website as the treasurer for Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong’s campaign committee. The Daily Journal cited this information in a story over the weekend about recent donations to the mayor’s campaign account.
“(I) saw your article in the paper. I appreciate it because I did not realize that I was still listed as Mayor Wells-Armstrong’s campaign treasurer,” Allen said in an email. “It was a role I agreed to when she first ran for alderman, and I assisted her with her first disclosure filing. I have since had no involvement in raising funds for her campaign or filing any disclosure reports for her.”
Allen said he would notify the mayor of his desire to be removed from the listing. He said he hadn’t done so before “because I had simply forgotten about it.”
“Many candidates approach me for help with filing their reports because I have been using the software and filing reports since 2002,” Allen said.
Allen is listed as the treasurer for Bradley Mayor Bruce Adams’ campaign committee.
Wells-Armstrong, who became mayor in 2017, couldn’t be reached for immediate comment.
