VALLEY SANTA: Grandmother Raising Four Seeking Help From Valley Santa

November 23, 2018

Many families will sit down to a turkey dinner today and give thanks for everything they have.

Other families, however, are struggling to afford basic necessities.

Donna, a local grandmother, said four of her grandchildren recently came to live with her and they arrived with “barely anything.”

She wrote a letter to Valley Santa asking for help in providing Christmas gifts for them.

“I am currently on disability and just cannot afford to give them a Christmas,” Donna wrote. “All I had went into getting their necessities. I would really appreciate any help you can give me.”

Patricia, another local grandmother, is raising her 4-year-old granddaughter Lily.

She said she has been raising her for the last three years after Luzerne County Children & Youth removed her from her parents.

Patricia just beat colon cancer and had to quit her job because of a broken neck and degenerative disc disease.

She does not receive financial assistance for Lily and she said her pension just pays for the mortgage, bills, food and clothing.

“Money is tight,” Patricia wrote. “Please help Lily at Christmas.”
