Man sentenced to life in prison in shooting death of rival
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A 37-year-old Providence man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a rival last July.
Arnold Evans pleaded guilty Thursday in Providence Superior Court in the July 1 shooting death of 27-year-old Tyrone “Freaky” Williams, also of Providence.
Prosecutors say Williams had been in a car with his girlfriend shortly after midnight waiting for a friend when Evans fired on them. Williams tried to flee on foot but was chased and shot multiple times. He died at the hospital. The woman wasn’t injured.
The Providence Journal reports Williams and Evans had been feuding for a while. Williams’ family said Williams had beat Evans up in an argument over a woman and Evans fired shots on the street where Williams lived.
