Officials: Man arrested after standoff, shooting deputy
PRENTISS, Miss. (AP) — Officials say a south Mississippi man is charged with shooting a sheriff’s deputy in the leg.
Timothy Taylor remains jailed without bail Monday in Jefferson Davis County.
Sheriff’s investigator Tim Culpepper says a deputy responded to a call Friday night, with Taylor saying he wasn’t going to jail. Culpepper says Taylor shot the unnamed deputy. He was hospitalized and is now at home recovering.
Culpepper says Taylor went inside a mobile home, exchanging shots with officers. Deputies entered, and Culpepper says Taylor fired again, but officers didn’t shoot back. After negotiations resumed, Taylor emerged and was arrested.
Charges against the 38-year-old Prentiss man include attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated assault on a police officer and drug crimes while possessing a gun.
Culpeper says Taylor refused a lawyer’s appointment.
