Fire chief to inspect former YMCA building

October 4, 2018

ROCKINGHAM, Vt. (AP) — Officials in a Vermont town say they want the fire chief to inspect a former YMCA building that a local resident has promised to restore.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports the Bellows Falls Village Trustees asked the fire chief Friday to inspect the former Meeting Waters YMCA over complaints about the safety of the building.

Resident Christopher Glennon bought the building from the YMCA two years ago for $1, and said he would restore it instead of tearing it down.

Glennon previously said the Rockingham School District wanted to tear down the building to make way for a parking lot for a nearby elementary school.

The building dates to 1830, and it is the second oldest church building in Bellows Falls.
