Connecticut sees August jobs increase
Connecticut added 1,100 jobs in August, following a revised gain of 500 for July, according to data released Thursday by the state Department of Labor.
As employment grew, the state unemployment rate ticked down one-tenth of a point from July to 4.3 percent. The national unemployment rate runs at 3.9 percent.
“After dips in March and April, we have now seen four straight months of employment gains in Connecticut,” Andy Condon, director of the Labor Department’s Office of Research, said in a statement. “On an annual basis, the construction, manufacturing, education & health services and leisure & hospitality sectors are all showing good growth. However, financial activities, a traditional employment foundation in Connecticut, continues to show some weakness.”
