Student who collapsed, died may have had heart condition
SEBASTIAN, Fla. (AP) — A preliminary autopsy of a 17-year-old student-athlete who collapsed at his school and died says the boy had “abnormalities of the heart.”
The Stuart News reports the Tuesday autopsy of 17-year-old Kamaree Lyons says test results are pending to determine his official cause of death.
Officials have said Lyons was playing pickup basketball Saturday night at Sebastian River High School when he collapsed and started seizing. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
Lyons was a varsity football player at the school, and a memorial is planned at the school Thursday night after a junior varsity football game. His funeral is set for Sunday morning.
