Police: Man shot in Bridgeport expected to survive

March 23, 2019

BRIDGEPORT — A man shot just before midnight Thursday is expected to survive, according to city police.

City spokeswoman Rowena White said officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Main Street and Wheeler Avenue at 11:53 p.m. Thursday and were directed to a man who had been shot multiple times.

“Detectives determined that a lone gunman approached a vehicle parked at this location on foot, and shot into the passenger side of the car,” White said in an email. “A male victim who was seated in the front passenger seat was struck multiple times by gunfire and crawled out the drivers side of the car after being shot.”

The driver of the vehicle, a woman, and a child in a car seat in the back were not injured, White said.

The man was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center and had surgery Friday morning. He is “in critical condition but expected to survive,” White said.

Officers found 15 shell casings at the scene, White said.

“Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Bridgeport Police Department Tips Line at 203-576-TIPS,” said White.
