VOTING - PIZZA
PHOENIX (AP) — It was a winning campaign for the group Pizza to the Polls. The group sent 8,000 pizzas to hungry voters as they waited on lines to cast their ballots yesterday. The group collects social media reports of long lines — and responds to the reports with freshly-baked pies. Where does the group get the money? It got a boost in recent days because of tweets and donations from celebrities like Debra Messing, Alyssa Milano, Mandy Moore and Patton Oswalt. They helped raise more than $300,000 over a 24-hour period. Piazza to the Polls was founded by three friends in 2016 when they saw people waiting in long lines. They picked pizza because it’s something everybody likes — and is easily shared. Based on the number of pies delivered, the group says Georgia voters got the most pizzas yesterday.
VOTING - SUSAN B. ANTHONY
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Some of the people who voted in yesterday’s midterm elections yesterday didn’t end up wearing the usual “I Voted” stickers that voters usually sport after doing their civic duty. That’s because the stickers ended up instead on the headstone of Susan B. Anthony. It’s part of an Election Day ritual that pays tribute to the voting rights pioneer at her gravesite in Rochester, New York. Dozens showed up to put the stickers on the headstone — and by time the head of the Susan B, Anthony Museum and House arrived around 10 a.m., there were already dozens of stickers affixed. And thanks to social media, there were numerous shots of the Anthony and the stickers that adorned it.
