MIAMI (AP) _ Miami Dolphins linebacker Derrick Rodgers is being sued for damages exceeding $15,000 by a man who claims the player hit him with a chair last month.
The suit contends Rodgers hit William Peguero with chair and punched him in the face. Rodgers later allegedly had his wife call Peguero and threaten him.
The suit, filed Friday, says Peguero ``suffered bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, and medical treatment.″
Rodgers is charged with two felonies, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer with violence, and three misdemeanors. He has pleaded innocent, and his trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 17.
The 235-pound Rodgers allegedly became angry when he discovered his wife sitting with Peguero at a restaurant on July 18.
