SCRANTON — A city man charged with sexually assaulting a girl waived his preliminary hearing today in Lackawanna County Central Court.

Andrew Thomas, 54, 1338 Bryn Mawr St., Apt. 2, was arrested by city police on Jan. 16 and accused fondling the victim at a Scranton home between October 2016 and March 2017.

The Times-Tribune does not identify victims of sexual assault.

The 5-year-old girl disclosed the abuse during an interview in September at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Detective Jeffery Gilroy wrote in the arrest affidavit.

The girl said the inappropriate touching happened more than once and made her feel uncomfortable, according to the affidavit. When she told an adult about it, she was told to keep it a secret.

Police charged Thomas with aggravated indecent assault of a person less than 13, indecent assault of a person less than 13 and corruption of minors.

Thomas waived the hearing during a brief appearance before Magisterial District Judge Sean McGraw. He was released afterward on $25,000 unsecured bail.
