Chicago officer kills teen who tried to rob him at gunpoint
CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago Police say an off-duty officer fatally shot a 16-year-old boy when the teen tried to rob him at gunpoint.
Police say the officer was sitting in his car on the far North Side of the city shortly before 2:30 a.m. Thursday when he was confronted by two teenagers who announced a robbery. Police say the officer handed over his wallet and other items but when the second teen patted him down for more items he located a second wallet that contained the officer’s police star.
Police say that when the 16-year-old pointed his gun at the officer and told him not to move, the officer grabbed his gun and fired.
The second teen ran away with the officer’s belongings but was taken into custody a short time later.
